The Canadian Association of Transplantation
continues to support and enhance the sharing
of ideas among health care providers across
the country. In answer to the need, CAT
has developed special interest groups for
members with specialized areas of interest
and/or expertise. There are currently several
special interest groups within CAT including
the Donor Coordinator Committee, the Living
Donor Coordinator Group, and the Transplant
Dieticians.
Donor Coordinator Committee The purpose of
the CAT Donor Coordinator Committee is
to provide a forum for donor coordinators,
representing their respective programs,
to discuss specific practice and donor
issues. The committee:
Identifies issues relating to donor
care and clinical practice
Develops strategies and recommendations
to help resolve issues where appropriate
Networks with peers on professional
issues
Enhances communication for all donor
professionals
Supports national standards of practice
and guidelines
Collaborates on multi-centre studies
Living Donor Coordinator Group
The Living
Donor Coordinator Group was established
to enhance communication among transplant
programs across Canada and to enhance inter
provincial and national assessment of potential
living donors and the transplant process.
They are dedicated to achieving excellence
in practice and facilitating education
across the continuum regarding the benefits
of living donation.
Family Support Committee
The Family Support Committee purpose is to promote optimal grief and bereavement support to the family members of organ and tissue donors across Canada. The objectives of this committee are to examine the grief protocols and practices of each Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO) within Canada with the intention of sharing resources to offer effective post donation support to donor families. This group will meet bi annually to discuss various mechanisms and tools for support and to share and/or generate new and improved materials if necessary and to identify and track issues related to family support.
