Green Ribbon Project One of the main purposes of CAT is to support and promote organ and tissue donor awareness. The green ribbon provides an identifiable image for support of donation. Green symbolizes life, and ribbon wearing has become a recent cultural norm for identifying support of individual causes. The green ribbon, worn by Americans for years, shows support for organ and tissue donation. In Canada, overwhelming positive support during the pilot project in Edmonton and at the 1997 CAT Annual General Meeting was the foundation for this endeavour to move to a national level. The key objective is to create a broadly recognized symbol of support for organ and tissue donation. This includes promoting discussion about donation and providing people with a device to show their support. With sponsorship from Hoffmann-La Roche, CAT was able to develop a kit, including posters, green ribbon pins and green ribbons, which was sent to all donor programs across Canada. Green ribbons have been distributed to government members, schools and their Boards, libraries, service clubs, churches, hospitals, and the public. |
